Walking Out Past to Present of the Gospel

    Preacher: Bob Putnam

    Series: Great Gospel

    Keywords: gospel, sanctification, present

    Summary:

This message looks at the impact the Gospel can have on our present life of sanctification right now.

    Detail:

Walking out of Your Past into The Present

And the beautiful thought of Sanctification

I’ve invited Benjamin to come up this morning and share a bit.

(Share a bit about our back story.)

So, Benjamin, this the day the Lord has made, share with us if you would where you were you, your life, and where you see yourself today.

Thank you, my dear friend. I’ll Pray for Benjamin

In the last two weeks we’ve heard from Andrew, on God’s power through The Gospel, for salvation, and John on the power of the Gospel in our past, being saved form the penalty, power, and presence of sin through faith in Christ Jesus. We’ve had one theme verse, that has carried us, and should always be stashed away in our hearts. Remember what it is???

Romans 1:16 lets read it together.  For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to Greek.

I have only one point or question this morning “DO YOU BELIEVE THIS???” And I’ll also leaving you at the end with the four G’s I have found to help in doing this life in Christ and struggling with this world and system of things.

As, I looked at the verse. What I find, that so amazing is Paul writes this verse now to the Romans after being imprisoned in Philippi, chased out of Thessalonica by his countrymen, those same enemies follow him and he has to be smuggled out of Berea, Was found in Athens, to have very strange teachings, and had to defend himself to great lengths for speaking the truth in the City of Corinth. And is here now, still eager to preach to the Romans, Wow and we think we have it tough……………

Coming out of our past I say this lightly as Paul did. Like Benjamin walking out of the past into a new life in Chris has, a lot of bumps and bruises.

I still remember; The first 3 years……………yr. 1 couldn’t believe it, yr. 2. It was all about Bob, I’m all fixed, I’m healed, and good to go. It was like I was eating a big ol’e apple-fritter, not seeing the crumb’s I was leaving along the way. Having a mike bottle full of understanding. And thinking I was all that and a box of chocolates. Then year 3 came and so did Jesus. He became alive like never before…………. SHARE……………….

And that new creation thing we read about in 2 Corinthians started to become something I wanted more than anything ever before in my life. It went from could this be real, to the fact that yes, all things are made new, 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old things have passed away; behold, new things have come. It went form this oooie gooie thing oh I’m all brand-new thing.  I started to consider what those words really met. “IN CHRIST”, …. RABBIT TRAIL TIME…… is there anyone here today that isn’t studying something in the Bible????? Please if you aren’t its ok, take a look at these four things I found in this verse, and see what you come up with. “IN CHRIST,” “NEW CREATION,” “OLD THINGS PASSED AWAY,” “NEW THINGS HAVE COME”, check it out, you may just be amazed at what God’s mighty Holy Spirit might show you. I’ll give you the first one; “IN CHRIST” I found four things. 1. Our security in Christ, 2. Our acceptance in Christ, with whom God is well please, 3. A believers future assurance in Him who is the resurrection to eternal life and the sole guarantor of our inheritance in heaven, 4. We begin to participate in the divine nature  of Christ, God’s un-changing everlasting word.

It is here in the present that Christ truly becomes alive.

When you come to a place in your heart and realize there is only one thing powerful enough to transform hearts and change lives from the inside out and deliver us from the penalty and power of sin and give us life everlasting.

Guys it is the Gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. DO YOU BELIEVE THIS?????  This message, The Cross, Christ Jesus, is exactly what we as Christians need to hear, seek and find daily; through reading, fellowship, prayer, meditation, song

This message, the Gospel, the cross, Christ Jesus, is exactly what this self-centered world desperately needs to hear. And God has called us to the world to share this truth…………

Guys yes, our flesh can be weak, Mt.26:41, but the Spirit is willing. Jesus is saying I know this is hard, the world is a big ol’e pot of temptations, but I got this, capture My Spirit be consumed in My Spirit. It is by God’s grace we have been called, it is by God’s grace we have been sanctified set apart for His glory, and His good works.

How is a broken-down Christian going to straighten up their crown if we don’t come along side and restore them gently. How are those lost in this world ever going to have the word of God shared with them if we don’t get out of ourselves and go out and share The Gospel as we have been called to do?

2 Timothy 1:7-9 says “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity/fear, but of power and love and discipline/a sound mind. God has already given us all the spiritual resources we need to go against any trial or threat. A spiritual power has been given us; every one of us who claim Christ as our Lord and Savior.  “Paul continues, verse 8” Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of your Lord or of me His prisoner, but join with me in suffering for the Gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus for all eternity.

                                     DO YOU BELIEVE THIS????????

“For the grace of God has appeared bring salvation to all men.” Titus 2:11 God’s saving grace in Christ is much bigger and more comprehensive than one might think. God’s grace not only rescues, it renovates. It not only justifies, it sanctifies. It not only reconciles, it renews. It not only propitiates, it purifies. It not only delivers, it matures. Indeed, the sovereign grace of God not only saves us from our sins, it saves us to a life, of growing holiness.

When were coming out of the past, into the present new life in Christ.

The lies of this world can still come in and cause turmoil and chaos. We still stumble,  get up dust off our boots and keep going, at times we may find these new shoes very un-confrontable.

In a minute I’m going to give you the four G’s that I’ve found helpful in doing life in Christ.

But first it was my intent. I truly wanted to share with you much more this morning on Sanctification. But the more I researched the more I found that to do this topic well. I found Sanctification is such an over looked central facet of the life-changing Gospel of Grace. I found, I would need at least a service or two to actually do it justice.

So, I will leave you with four “G’s” I mentioned that will make a difference in your daily lives. Or maybe our *8 P’s.

    1.  God is Gracious, So, we don’t need to prove ourselves.

When your believing the lie that you need to prove yourself to God, others and yourself, what are some of the sinful behaviors that can result?

    2.  God is Good, So, we don’t need to look elsewhere.

When you believe the lie that complete satisfaction, I found in things other than God. Think what do you turn to? What are the negative consequences?

    3.  God is Great, So, we don’t have to be in control.

When we are believing the lie that God is not in control and he doesn’t care for you, how do you respond when life feels out of control?

    4.  God is Glorious, So, we don’t have to fear others.

When you are more aware of people and their opinions and approval than God’s approval, what happens when you don’t feel accepted and approved?

    Benediction. 1st. Peter 1:3-4
